Marsinius Budziszarev Wholly unique US black metal. A feedback loop of Phil Elvrum being influenced by Burzum and Drudkh and then influencing black metal. Great open and crackling production atmosphere. As if the windy clattering of barren trees were recorded and amplified for effect.

Trveheimer The best the melting pot of "cascadian black metal"has to offer.its neither folk with metal influences nor black metal with folk elements, but something unique in between the lines, very poetic, but raw produced music, sometimes calm, sometimes loud as a storm. this album leaves all similar works far behind in terms of quality and authenticity.

Travis Niemeyer Beginning doomy as a funeral dirge, then venturing into an intimidating but beautiful and fierce wilderness - the listener winds up consumed by the inner animal within, never wishing to return to civilization.

Heartworn is a concept album based on the ancient ecological rhythms of North American animal migration and its related themes – recorded in the winter of 2015/2016 in an off-grid location in pastoral Minnesota powered with solar electricity and heated only with a wood stove.
Mass waterfowl exoduses, desperate fish spawns, and the oldest, earthly symbols of snake life-cycles are among the focus of this work. Heartworn, is centered around the themes of migration, loss, and rebirth associated with the yearly life-cycles of endemic North American fauna (specifically symbolized in various bird, fish, and snake species).
Over the course of eight ambitiously crafted tracks it ranges between funereal folk yearnings, landscapes of gurgling, primordial funeral doom, contemplative Americana guitar stylings, emotive field-recorded experimentation, and black metal formed from large sky and titanic forests of golden tallgrass.

"Recorded in a solar powered hut in the middle of rural Minnesota warmed only by a wood stove. Now that’s how you record an album of this style… it’s really these sorts of moments where Mur and Sather shine, in part due to the production values which allow the more organic natural moments to breathe."

"Another great sounding recording from Mur. On this recording Mur retain a lot of the atmospheric black metal elements while also experimenting more with funeral doom, folk and americana to create a very original sounding album, the production sounds very powerful for being a self released recording."

"There are lots of small touches to Heartworn that help make it such an excellent album, but to list them would do an injustice to any interested listeners. Heartworn is one of the most powerful, evocative albums of the year thus far, and deserves to be recognized as such."

"Sather is truly finding his voice and spirit within Mur’s music, and that’s pretty obvious from what he creates on “Heartworm.” There are a lot of bands employing this type of sound right now, granted, but where Sather and Mur stand out is in what comes from the creator’s heart and is slathered across his music."

"“Heartworn” is filled with majestic atmospheric passages, epic harmonies, being gentle and delightful at once and, from out of the blue, the songs turn into a raw, crude interpretation. It is dark, but beautiful and I dare to say, hopeful. It’s truly, truly touching. Glorious, but still calming. It is so much better when you listen to music that is actually honest, sincere, real."
